2009-10 Literacy Programs Funded
Reach Out and Read
San Joaquin – Parents are given books at
pediatric physicians' offices during well-baby visits to
stress the importance of reading to children.
The
Big Read – An initiative of the National Endowment
for Arts, The Big Read brings our Community together to
engage in reading one book title during a specified time
period.

Library Support
–
The Foundation supplements funding for
library books so that resources continue to be available for
the entire community during lean economic times.
Summer Reading Club
– Children track the number of books
they read and are rewarded for meeting summer reading goals.
Early Learning with Families
– Parent/child
workshops for young children to engage in play with
age-appropriate manipulative, board books and
story times. Experts on
childhood issues talk informally with parents and answer questions.
